UNASOMALIA Honors Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh with Prestigious Human Rights Award

MOGADISHU, Somalia – November 1, 2025 – The United Nations Association of Somalia (UNASOMALIA) today presented its annual Human Rights Award to Honorable Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh, a distinguished member of the Somali Federal Parliament, in a formal ceremony held at Accord University.
The award was conferred in recognition of his unwavering dedication, courageous advocacy, and transformative contributions to the advancement of human rights, justice, and dignity across Somalia.
In her address, Ms. Hafsa Ali Warsame, UNASOMALIA's Youth and Student Coordinator, stated, “Today, we do not just honor a politician; we honor a champion for the people. Hon. Abdirahman’s work embodies the principles of the United Nations Charter. His lifelong commitment to justice and equality provides a powerful example for the next generation of Somali leaders. He shows us that principled leadership is the cornerstone of a just society.”
The award ceremony highlighted Hon. Shiekh's profound and lasting impact on the nation, particularly in advocating for the most vulnerable.
Ms. Salma Abdi Hassan Omar, UNASOMALIA's ISIC Sales and Outreach Officer, added, “This award celebrates a legacy of service that has tangibly improved lives. Hon. Abdirahman’s advocacy goes beyond words—it has fostered real change and given hope to countless Somalis. By recognizing his work, we reaffirm our collective commitment to the ideals of human dignity and equality for all.”
In accepting the award, Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh expressed his gratitude to UNASOMALIA and reiterated his dedication to the cause of human rights.
